History: Beginning in 1967 Bruce lee invented a fighting style with no limitations. It is not a martial art itself but a process. He combined his learned knowledge from Wing Chun, Wushu, Boxing, and countless other martial arts to create the process after which the person becomes a better martial artist without the limitations of mind or body.
Basic Principles of JKD:
Be like water - a very common and basic principle of martial arts such a Kung Fu. Your actions must be fluid and non stopping. They should be connected and should be flexible. Water can flow around anything and overcome everything.
Economy of Motion - Waste not. This principle centers around not using your energy uselessly to execute a move which could be made with less energy and more speed. This principle also deals with not taking attacks head on but diluting the energy instead of hindering it.
Absorbing what is useful - Learn your techniques and learn other techniques. It is essential to learn as much as you can about yourself and your opponent.
Centerline - The Centerline is an imaginary line running vertically in the middle of your opponent chest. The point is to exploit and control it because without his center. The opponent cannot win.
Combat realism - Not only should martial arts look good, but they should also be practical. Moves that expose you or do not follow the other principles of JKD should not be practiced in combat because they are not practical and may cause your downfall.
Three parts of JKD-
* Efficiency - An attack that reaches its mark using the maximum amount of energy and applying it to a single point in the least amount of time.
* Directness - Doing what comes naturally in a learned way.
* Simplicity - Thinking in an uncomplicated manner; without ornamentation.
Four ranges of Combat-
*kicking
*punching
*Trapping
*Grappling
Five ways of attack-
* Single Angle Attack - A single motion attack where the point and purpose is to do direct damage.
* Hand Immobilization Attack - You are trying to limit your opponents
* Progressive Indirect Attack - attacking one part of the body to create a weakness in the other.
*Attack By Combinations - multiple attacks which seek to overcome the opponent with the multitudes of attack.
* Attack By Drawing - causing your opponent to come in and attack when you attack him back without defending.
